Many of you have wondered where I’ve disappeared to the past little bit and I figured with my new photo series complete, now is the best time to fill you in. I’m going to make this short and without much detail, seeing as these issues are very personal.
I have lost my maternal grandmother, paternal grandfather, and my 11 year old dog all in the past 8 months. Every time I try to get up and stand on my own two feet I seem to fall crumbling back down. Since I was young I’ve realized that life is short and we only get one. I try and live every single day to it’s fullest, though lately it’s been a struggle to do so.
In terms of the grieving process after a loved one has died, I believe that everyone grieves differently and in their own way. I took the 5 stages of grief theory and transferred the emotions into my 365 day project over the past 5 days and thought I would share with you.
The 5 stages of grief are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. If you would like to research more about the grief process I recommend Grief (on Wikipedia) and The Five Stages of Grief.
P.S. I will be back again and this time even stronger, I’ve just needed a bit of a break from my online life. In the near future I plan on to start posting more frequently again and re-designing some of this website to include a photography portfolio and possibly a couple other things.
I’m back again for my second attempt at 365 days of self portraits! This time I decided that I would start it on my 20th birthday, which was on July 7th. Turning 20 has signified many things to me including the fact that I’m getting older, time has been flying right on by and I’m only a year away from being completely legal. I figured no other time would be better to start a project like this one since I’ll be able to see my growth between 20 and 21 as a person and as a photographer. By taking this challenge I’m hoping to gain more self knowledge and photography skills throughout the next year.
I invite you to come along for the ride of the wonderful and interesting days that are to come ahead from this project. You can find the photos by either:
My first and unsuccessful try at the 365 day project ended up turning into 19 days of self portraits which can be seen in my Flickr set.
It’s been cleaning and errand time for me. Between that, the 365 day project and school I’ve been incredibly busy.
There’s a new MySpace around which just to happens to be my new account! You can take a look at the new page at myspace.com/cathryngray!
I have some more neat goodies in store, including a contest to win a Canon SELPHY Photo Printer! One way to keep up with what’s going on is by signing up to my RSS feed through your reader or by email updates.
The New Year started off a little rough for me and my family. I’ve posted a couple tweets about the absence. If you’d like to follow what’s going on be sure to follow me on Twitter.
After being bruised and beaten over the past year by my clumsiness, my second iPhone took it’s last tumble out of my hand to it’s death. (The story on why it’s my second) I’m now contemplating between the black or white iPhone 3G.

I thought I’d finish off 2008 and the holiday season with a video I shot while going through a Christmas light display. I’ve got some surprises up my sleeve for 2009, so keep tuning in!
I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! I’ve been running around like a mad person searching for presents since I waited until the last minute to get them. Being busy doing things I haven’t had the time to update the blog, but here I am now! Some of you know that Santa visited my house early this year with a Nikon D90 just for me (if you didn’t know, I guess now you do). I’m assuming he read my “10 Item Geeky Christmas List” cause he sure read my mind. I do have video footage of the opening of the camera, but I realized once I uploaded it that iMovie doesn’t have the editing capabilities that I needed. Poo! I’ve been debating on booting up the monstrous Gateway and using Windows Movie Maker. Hmmm.
I’ve been fiddling around with the Nikon D90 since I’ve gotten it but haven’t had the best test subjects. I headed towards downtown Winston Salem two days ago during “magic hour” hoping to find what I was looking for. I got some pretty neat shots and I picked out my 3 favorites.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy new year!!!
Seeing that Christmas is almost a week away it’s about time to make my official Christmas wish list.
