New Social Network: Likaholix

Likaholix Top Bar

I signed up to Likaholix yesterday after reading a few tweets about it. This new social network definitely has some potential and is a bit addicting.

So what is this Likaholix that you speak of? Likaholix allows you to share, discuss and discover your likes with people. Essentially, you find things that you enjoy and add them to your profile. The site will ask you to enter the name of an item in the ‘Like Something’ box and then give you options to choose from, or you can add a link to the thing that you like. Then you will be able to add a comment about something particular you like about whatever that thing may be. If other users like the identical thing that I do, they may say that they also like it. This is where you can find people who like the same things and can meet new friends through Likaholix.

Likaholix Profile

Note: There is no hating going on around the site, only positive feedback. Of course you can view a friends profile and always make fun of them if they like something you don’t agree with.

UPDATE: The site is still currently in limited private beta, but I now have a permanent invite code which means all of you readers can now join the site through me using the code. All you have to do is click here to sign up.

What if You Could Shower with Your iPhone?

The user twoeggplants on Etsy.com has made it possible. What a crazy, awesome idea! The iPhone soap is said to be about the same size as the real deal.

iPhone Soap

“It has the black button at the bottom and the “screen icons” in its “flat screen”. The top layer of the soap is dark grayish black and the bottom layer is a slightly lighter shade of gray. I must say that this is one of my coolest creations and each feature is meticulously created.”

It weighs about 3 ounces and the two that are available come scented either Mojito or Tropical Mango. You can even customize the fragrance or have none at all. Honestly perfect gift for a friend who loves iPhones, or even yours truly. ;)

You can check it out on Etsy.com

The First 90 Days with my Nikon D90!

I first mentioned the 90D90 project on January 4th and the completed project is above.

The Nikon D90 was given to me on December 22nd, 2008 as an early Christmas present, which made my 90th day March 22nd. I took 4,369 pictures with my Nikon D90 within the first 90 days of having it and took 3,318 of them to make the film.

Places where I shot include Clemmons, Charlotte, Mount Airy and Winston Salem in North Carolina, along with Charleston and Kiawah Island located in South Carolina.

If you’d like more information on creating your own 90D90 project visit 90D90.com!

Trip into the Rural Mountains

Not knowing exactly where and what to expect I headed to the mountains for the night with some friends this past weekend. It was quite the experience I must say. No heat or electricity altogehter, plus no running water or cell phone service. I was out of my element. It was a blast though! I got my camera out for a little bit on Saturday morning and here are the photos:

iPhone 3.0 Software Coming Summer 2009

iPhone 3.0 Blueprint

That’s right! The iPhone 3.0 software will be available this summer to iPhone users and iPod Touch users with over 100 new features for the consumer. Today Apple held a press conference at the Town Hall auditorium to show a first look into the new software.

Did you know?

  • Apple has sold 13.7 million iPhones
  • That there are over 25,00 apps in the App Store
  • Over 800 million app downloads have been made

Some of the Features that will be available are:

  • Use of landscape mode in applications, such as SMS, Mail and Notepad!
  • Copy and Paste, which will not only work within one app but across apps!
  • Improvements to the message app, including MMS support (FINALLY) where you can send photos, audio files, location and vCards, plus capability to forward and delete single or multiple messages.
  • Push notification!
  • Voice memo capability that allows you to record, edit, share and email
  • Capability to search through Mail, Contacts, Notes, Calendar and iPod
  • Spotlight homescreen so you can search all of your apps
  • New calendar support, including gcal, subscriptions, .ics format and exchange
  • Improvements to YouTube app like ratings, subscriptions and profile
  • Improvements to Stock app
  • Notes will now be able to sync with iTunes (What about SMS?)
  • Stereo Bluetooth capabilties
  • Support for peer-to-peer connectivity
  • Auto Fill
  • Parental Controls
  • and More!

iPhone 2G owners will not have all the new features avalible to them, which makes me think that it was the perfect time for my 2G to die! Also, iPod touch users will be paying $9.95 for the update.

I’m most excited about finally having landscape capabilities with SMS, plus copy and paste! Both were simple features that have been left out over the past two years, but thankfully are going to be with us soon. I’m also exciting about the Sims 3 coming to the iPhone! Hopefully this summer!!

What are you looking forward to? Was there something that wasn’t announced that Apple forgot about?

Trip to Kiawah Island, SC

The Boys and Me at one of the Towers

If you’ve kept up with me on Twitter you know that I recently went to Kiawah Island which is a barrier island located 19 miles away from Charleston, South Carolina. The island is home to 10 miles of unspoiled beach, five award-winning championship golf courses, endless biking paths and wildlife galore. I grew up going to Kiawah and the island has become a home away from home for me, making it the best place to go when I need a break from everyday life.

I wasn’t able to get my camera out as much as I would have liked to but I did get it out a little. Below are some of the shots that were taken that week.

Ritzy the Raccoon, Four Colorful Sunset

I normally focus more on landscapes but I only had a telephoto lens with me which turned out to be quite the feat when going to places such as the Angel Oak. Thankfully I had my trusty iPhone with the Pano app.

Pano of the Angel Oak

The Angel Oak, above, has shaded John’s Island, South Carolina for over 1,500 years. It stands tall at an incredible 65 feet and covers 160 feet of land. It’s a must see for tourists visiting this part of South Carolina.

Overlooking Marsh Land

There are three towers on Kiawah which overlook the marshy areas of the island. The photo above was taken from one of the towers on the Vanderhorst Plantation.

During the week we spent time going to the beach, adventuring around the island, riding bikes, and we headed into Charleston one night. Riding bikes at Kiawah is the best way to get around the island and comes in handy when you need some exercise, so I rented bikes for us to ride. We had a day filled of riding from one end of the island to the other. Once we were finished riding them for the day, we locked them up and then went to grab some dinner. When we got back the bikes weren’t there, so I thought ‘okay the rental company must have made a mistake and picked them up while we were gone’. Not known to my knowledge the bikes had actually been stolen. That caused quite the stir for the following days.

On Tuesday night, the boys and I headed into Charleston not having a clue where to go or what we wanted to do. We ended up taking the long way to get into Charleston and went over the Ravenel Bridge which was gorgeous! By the time we reached Charleston all of us were hungry and decided to give the iPhone a chance. We picked Hyman’s Seafood, which turned out to be an amazing place with awesome food. It was a family type restaurant that just so happened to have a list of celebrity appearances they’ve had come in.

At night on the last couple of days we were greeted by a raccoon on our back porch. I was actually sitting on the porch on my computer when Alex knocked on the window to let me know that there was a raccoon right next to me, which completely startled me when I heard the raccoon move first. He ended up wanting a little taste of one of my Redbulls that was on the outside table and kept coming back to see if there was more. We named him Ritzy for his other love, Ritz crackers.

Trips to Kiawah always leave me wanting more of the gorgeous place. Hopefully, it won’t be another two years before I’m able to take another trip “home. You can find more pictures from the trip in my “Kiawah Island, SC” set on Flickr and you can learn more about the island by going to KiawahResort.com.

Cary Brothers, Ride

When I watched “The Last Kiss” one of the songs that stood out to me was ‘Ride’ by the Cary Brothers. Then the other day while going through my iTunes library I rediscovered the song and realized how much I liked it. The music video, above, was done by celebrity photographer Tyler Shields and stars actress Brittany Snow.

You can download the song here: Cary Brothers - Who You Are (Bonus Track Version) - Ride

Crazy Stop Motion Video

I just ran across this stop motion video called “Fat City Reprise – Long Gone” by Cesar Kuriyama, which was created from 45,000 photos taken by a Nikon D200 DSLR. I fell in love with it and thought I’d share.
